Trail Name: River’s Trail- Riverside Park to Pioneer Park
Distance: 2.8 km
Time: 40 mins
Cell Service: Yes
Trail: Fully paved (wheelchair accessible)
Highlight: wheelchair accessible, very family oriented, and a great evening stroll along the river!
To get there: Riverside Park is located right in Downtown Kamloops. You’ll want to get onto Lorne Street headed west via either 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 10th Avenues. You’ll see Riverside Park on your right. As you approach 1st Ave, turn off towards the park onto Uji Way. Continue down this short drive, and park in the parking area at the end. Or see it on Google maps here.
This trail starts at the Japanese gardens in Riverside Park and follows the River’s Trail towards Pioneer Park. Starting at the Japanese garden, you’ll head through Riverside Park and along the beach. Then after passing under the train bridge, continue along the trail until you reach the Red Bridge. From here, we followed the trail as it wraps around the parking lot. We finished our hike at the information board at the entrance to the parking area.
This trail is fantastic for families! You can wander through the park, check out some local art pieces, and play in the river. Consider bringing some food for a picnic before or after the hike. One of Kamloops’ best ice cream spots, Scoopz, is near Riverside too. Every night in July and August, there is free live Music in the Park. Also, be aware that Riverside Park is NOT a dog friendly park. However, Pioneer park is. So if you want to make this hike dog friendly, start the hike from the parking lot of the Sandman Centre; see it here.
