Trail Name: Rim Loop Snowshoe
Distance: 2.5 km
Time: 45 mins
Difficulty: Easy
Cell Service: Yes
Trail: Narrow single track above the Valleyview silt cliffs
Highlights: A lovely easy trail high above Valleyview with great views of the city!
To get there: Head East along the Trans-Canada Hwy. Turn right onto Highland Dr. Follow this through the 4 way stop and take the following left towards the Valleyview Arena. You should see the sign for the Valleyview Nature Park on your left. Park here. Or get directions from Google Maps here.
From the Valleyview Nature Park entrance, follow the Sagebrush trail up the valley. Keep an eye out for the easy trail up to the Rim Loop which should be coming up on your left. From there, we took the trail towards the left, but it’s a loop so you could go either way. Follow the loop around, but be careful as most of the trail runs along the edge of the silt cliffs. It may not be a good choice for those afraid of heights or steep drop offs! At the end of the loop, be sure to keep an eye out for the sign heading back down to the Sagebrush trail.
This was the first time we snowshoed this loop. It is spectacular on a clear, beautiful day! The views of Mt. Peter and Paul covered in snow were breathtaking! If you’re looking for an easy, in town snowshoe trail – this is it! This is another trail we would NOT recommend doing when it’s windy as there is no wind protection up there. The Valleyview Nature Park is an off-leash dog park, so feel free to bring your dogs as well! The trail was pretty well packed when we did this loop, so as long as there is no fresh snow, you could probably hike this trail in boots if you haven’t got snowshoes yet.
