To get there: This hike is about an hour’s drive from Kamloops. Head East along the Trans-Canada Hwy. Continue on the highway for about 65kms. Turn right onto Squilax-Anglemont Rd and head over the bridge. Continue on this road for another 5.6km. The park will be on your left. Or get directions from Google here.
Park in the parking area at Tsútswecw (pronounced choo-chwek) Provincial Park. During the peak salmon run years, additional parking is available. From the parking area head to the left of the interpretive building and follow alongside the fence. (Heading to the right of the interpretive building takes you to the short Viewing Platform Trail – also worth a visit. As you enter the forest, you will see the introduction sign for the Story Trail. As you walk along the trail, keep your eyes open for single brown sign posts with QR codes attached. Scan the codes with your smartphone’s camera and listen to the audio file as you continue down the trail and towards the next sign. The trail is a loop and easy to follow.
This trail is incredibly unique, offering the opportunity to hear local Indigenous youth share their language and knowledge of the native plants, wildlife, and landscape features of the park. All you need to enjoy this experience is a smartphone with cellular data. This trail is great for families and kids with the opportunity to see the salmon spawning in October. Dogs are also welcome on-leash.
