Watching Creek

Trail Name: Watching Creek
Distance: 6.4 km
Time: 1 – 2 hrs
Difficulty: Easy
Cell Service: No
Trail: Starts off single track uphill for a couple hundred meters, and then becomes 4×4 road through the trees
Highlight: Nice summer walk through the forrest, multiple campsites to be found, near Watching creek and if you look hard enough you might find some remnants of an old homestead.

To get there: From downtown Kamloops, head across the Overlander Bridge and follow the signs to the Kamloops airport. Continue 6km past the airport and then keep to the right onto Tranquille-Criss Creek road. Continue for another 17km. As soon as you pass a narrow bridge, pull into the rec site on your left. The trailhead is directly across the road from the rec site entrance. Or get the directions here.

Park in the rec site on the left side of the road. The trailhead is directly across the road from the entrance to this rec site. There is a barbwire fence you’ll have to cross, but the wires are quite loose and it should be easy to get through. From here, head straight up the hill and turn right when you arrive at the 4×4 road. Notice the flagging tape to highlight the trail on the way back. Continue down the main road until you reach the campsite and Watching Creek!

This trail should be manageable by any one. Most of the hike consists of gradual slopes. Should you decide to go down to the creek, be very careful as the slope is steep and slippery. Otherwise, this is a nice walk through the trees that anyone, including the family dog, will enjoy! Be sure to have a look around and see if you can find some remnants of the old homestead. Also, think about checking out the rec site where you parked and the nearby swimming hole! This is a fantastic spot to bring the family in the summer!

  1. I grew up not far from there and it is nice if people don’t smash glass or leave garbage behind, it’s starting to get a little trashed from people
