Description
Wells Gray Provincial Park is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you’re hiking one of their various trails, or exploring one of their 39 majestic waterfalls, you’re sure to have a fantastic experience! Well Gray was established in 1939. Consisting of over 527,000 hectares, it is the 4th largest park in British Columbia after the Tatshenshini, Spatsizi and Tweedsmuir parks. The park can be reached in about 1.5 hours from Kamloops. Access Points
From Kamloops, take Hwy 5 North towards Clearwater. Continue straight along the highway for 120 kms. Once you reach the roundabout in Clearwater, take the third exit towards Clearwater Valley Rd./Wells Gray Provincial Park. This gives you access to the entirety of Wells Gray Provincial Park. Specific Trails
Helmcken Falls South Rim
For a different view of the famed Helmcken Falls, take the 4km trail out to a viewpoint along the south rim of the canyon.
Triple Decker Falls
Although maybe lesser known, and definitely harder to get to, Triple Decker Falls is equally as stunning! The trail down is more difficult, but you are likely not to find any others at the base of these falls! If you haven’t already, check them out!
Clearwater River Trail
A longer, linear trail that will take you past two stunning waterfalls, the Clearwater River trail is best done with two vehicles or one vehicle and bikes. Enjoy both Triple Decker Falls and Candle Creek Falls on this hike.
Moul Falls
One of (in our opinion) the best waterfalls in the park, Moul Falls is a must-see! Not only can you get up close and personal with the falls, you can even venture in and around them! A truly refreshing hike on a hot day!
McDiarmid Falls
Not for the faint of heart, this trail is located off of the Moul Falls trail.This trail is great if you’ve never checked out McDiarmid falls before, or if you’re looking for a longer, more challenging hike to do in conjunction with Moul Falls.
Silvertip Falls
A gorgeous cascading waterfall in the park that you can get up close and personal with. Makesure you are wearing appropriate footwear as you are bound to get a little wet! Not suitable for RVs or trailers.
Dawson Falls
A quick easy hike in to a gorgeous cascading waterfall! Well worth the quick trip!
Bailey’s Chute
The trail into Bailey’s Chute is easy and accessible for most. The hike in from the parking area is only about 10 minutes. Definitely a must stop on your drive through the park!
Marcus & Myanth Falls
Continuing on the trail past Bailey’s Chute, this trail leads you to two more waterfalls! Three waterfalls in one 2 hour hike! If you need to get out and stretch your legs, this trail is perfect!
Stitca Falls
These falls are hidden away way up at Clearwater Lake. Follow the trail to Chain Meadows, but take a quick side trail down to the falls! Keep an eye out for the trail right before the bridge which will bring you to a better viewpoint!
Falls Creek Falls
Although not spectacular, these falls are worth noting as they are also up at Clearwater Lake. See the description for where these are at the bottom of the blog post!
